"Fantastic baby clinic"

About: Trent Villages North Children's Centre

(as a service user),

I am a first time mum to a beautiful (now) 17 week old baby boy. Every fortnight on a Monday we would go up to Trent villages children center in Tuxford to see the health visitor, have baby weighed, express concerns, ask for advice and meet other parents. We attend clinic on Monday 12th December to be told baby clinic is being replaced with self weighing and that this was the last clinic. Myself and many of the other parents who attend the clinic wish for it to continue as do the health visitors and other professionals that run the clinic. It is the only time we get to see a Health Visitor unless I ring the number in my red book and make an appointment. I'm not happy that this service has ended I would like very much so for closing the clinic to be reconsidered and kept going not just for my baby but for all babies that are taken.

Hello, thank you for your comments. It's great that you enjoy using our Children's Centre and that this gives you the opportunity to meet other parents. Maybe you would like to join us for our baby group on Wednesday mornings? Please contact the centre on 01777 872061/01623 861691 for more information or request a timetable. I have contacted Sherrel who is General Manager for Universal & Targeted CYP Services and she has provided the following response regarding the changes to the weighing service:

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback, we take your concerns seriously but the changes we are proposing in moving away from the generic drop-in sessions, which are often very busy, will enable us to offer a tailored service for parents to meet their individual needs offering privacy and protected time with the Health Visitor. Other parents have fed back to us that the Child Health Clinics are often too busy and they have to wait for long periods of time. Based on this feedback and the need to work effectively we recognised the need to change the way we deliver this service. The self-weighing is an option specifically for parents who would like to weigh their baby but not necessarily want to see a Health Visitor. We are also setting up a single point of contact for parents to be able to call to book time with their health visitor to make it easier.

Regarding the social aspects, we recognise how important it is for parents to have the opportunity to meet and we are working with our Children's Centre colleagues to look at opportunities they can offer to meet these needs locally.

I am really pleased that you have taken the time to share your concerns. If you would like to discuss this further the contact number for the General Manager is 07850918871.
