Late on a Friday I was requested via a phone consultation with my medical practice, to see the Primary Eye Care Assessment and Referral Service, and given the name and number to phone. This then had to wait until the Monday morning. I phoned and was given an appointment the same day at 2. 50 pm. After the consultation ended around 3. 40pm PEARS phoned RSH. The Urgent Eye Clinic asked me to come immediately and I arrived about 4. 20 pm Examinations and tests eventually ended at 7. 30pm. avoiding an overnight stay in hospital. With the Hospital Pharmacy closed, scouring four pharmacies in Shrewsbury failed to obtain the necessary 4 prescriptions. Returning to RSH the doctor who treated me was on call and came to the hospital and managed to find sufficient essential medication to last until the next day. I left the hospital at 9. 30 pm with the request I return the following day at 11. 30 am for Laser treatment. I had Laser treatment on both eyes at 1. 30pm on the Tuesday.
I was back home exactly 24 hours after leaving home the previous day for the EARS appointment. From a close relatives who is a doctor I realise I was a very urgent case and without the amazing response of PEARS and the Urgent Eye Clinic response I was in serious danger of losing the eyesight in one or both eyes. We trust the danger has passed.
I cannot thank all involved enough. They were all very professional and I felt greatly cared for.
