"treatment from the Endoscopy dept"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

(as the patient),

I have always praised treatment at QEQM but today I endured a dreadful experience, and inadequate care. Apparently the department was very busy and they were under staffed! !

Whilst giving my details to the admission nurse I requested to be treated by a specialist and not a trainee. I was then challenged by a registrar that she would be treating me under supervision of two specialists because she had to get experience and during the procedure she did need supervising on more than one occasion!

The sedation did not work until about 2 hours after I was discharged being sent home without so much as a sip of water after fasting and not drinking for over 8 hours, I was feeling very light headed hence my husband had to support me in the carpark when my legs gave way!

This department felt so impersonal from the receptionist who presented me with another persons details on my arrival, to the disregard of patient respect by the nurses. Why send out explanatory paperwork when the staff ignore the patient's request after they have read it?

I actually came out of the hospital feeling like an animal who had been taken to the vets rather than a human being who had read the brochures and asked questions about the treatment I was there for, that my worries were totally ignored by the staff

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write to us about you r experience at QEQM Endoscopy Unit. I am very sorry to read how upsetting the experience was for you.

I will make sure your feedback is taken back to the Matron so that she can make sure this does not happen to anyone else.

I do hope you are now recovered and that any treatment you needed is going well.

once again, thank you for feeding back and please accept my sincere apologies for your poor experience.

best regards

sally
