"Exceptional nurse care"

About: University Hospital Monklands / General Medicine (Wards 2,10,12 and 17)

(as the patient),

In August 2016 I was admitted into ward 2 in Monklands District General Hospital, in Airdrie by transfer from Wishaw General Hospital at approximately 11pm. I had been in WGH for two days, with severe headaches, sickness and dehydration. Unfortunately the doctors were unable to diagnose the problem due to the possibility it was an infection that I may have contracted from a trip abroad the month previous.

On arrival to the ward I was greeted by a lovely gentleman named Jim. I was extremely unwell and could not concentrate much on the goings on due to the pain. Jim made my father and I feel at ease straight away and ensured us that everything was going to be okay. I would also like to bring the attention to Donna-Marie, as the care and compassion is exceptional. I can honestly say I was cared for in such a high standard and a way in which was individual to my needs.

Although my main aim is to express my gratitude and thanks to Nurse Barry, whom looked after me on several occasions throughout my 7 night stay. One night when Barry was nightshift, and this would be in my opinion my worse night - pain wise - throughout my stay. He went to new levels of nursing when it came to care and compassion that night. I was so unwell I honestly thought I would never see the morning. At no point did he ever make me feel like a hindrance on him, or question anything I was telling him. Barry went over and above to make sure I was pain free, at ease and comfortable. The reassurance given to me at this time was something I have never experienced before. I was very nervous throughout my stay, but always felt at ease when I knew he would be in charge of my care.

During my stay in the hospital my mother had pneumonia and Barry was exceptional with understanding my worries and concerns I had about being alone and scared throughout my stay. My father came in to visit every day, and every shift that Barry was on he made a point of coming to speak to him to keep him updated and even asked about my mother regularly.

Once I began to get better, the care did not stop. Barry was exception in all aspects of his nursing care towards me.
