"heartfelt appreciation"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

(as a relative),

My elderly old Mother visited QEQM  for an outpatients appointment having travelled by bus. She got off the bus at Ramsgate Road and made her way to outpatients ( St Peters Road ). Having finished her appointment she proceeded out of the nearest exit to catch the bus and this is when her trouble started. My mum had exited the wrong side of the Hospital and became extremely distressed. After wondering around for what seemed like an hour she became quite breathless and extremely upset. A young lady with blonde hair approached her in the car park and took her back inside. She calmed my mother down, reassured her. She went out of her way to go and fetch a wheelchair. Got her a drink of water and a tissue. She then took my Mother in the wheelchair to the bus stop at Ramsgate Road. She ensured that my mother was ok before leaving her.

I just want to personally thank this member of staff who couldn't have done more for my mother at what was an extremely distressing time to her. My mother couldn't remember her name but thought she was one of the Head Porters.

Please pass on my heartfelt appreciation.

I am so sorry to hear of the distress caused to your mother when she exited by the 'wrong; exit.

The hospital can be a very confusing place for people, especially if you are a little stressed by being there in the first place.

I am very glad to note that one of the staff 'rescued' her from this situation and helped put her on the right track again.

We are very proud of our staff - many of which we know go above and beyond the call of duty, as they say, and it is lovely that you have highlighted this.

I do hope that your mother was able to settle down well when she got home again and that she didn't feel too traumatised by the event.

Please let her know, that she can stop any member of staff (anyone wearing a name badge, whether in a uniform or not) and they would be happy to help.
