"My husbands care or lack of"

About: University Hospital Ayr / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My husbands dialysis line was not working properly and he had to go to Ayr to have it replaced. When we arrived at Ayr and went to the station where he was booked to go there were no beds as a result he was transferred to endoscopy for the night, for the procedure in the morning.

The 2 nurses sat at the desk and didn't come near after they pointed out which bed to go to. I took his pjs out and left them on the bed and told the nurses his meds were in his bag. Went to collect him the next evening and discovered his meds hadn't been touched. Asked the nurse at day surgery if he'd had any, she didn't know but looked at his notes but no record of meds, there was no cardex or anything on line. That was the night before meds and his morning meds that were missed.

Then I noticed pjs were still folded up no creases, he said he'd slept in his day clothes! ! ! ! ! I'm absolutely disgusted an extremely angry

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear rcolgan

I see why you are angry, I would have been too. I will pass this to the management team for their reflection and action.

I can appreciate that being in a day surgery bed is not ideal for anyone but I'm not sure what benefit this posed as it turned out. I would like to say how sorry I am this is not the environment we expect our patients to experience.

I do hope your husbands procedure went well and he is back into his dialysis routine.

Kind regards,

Eunice
