"The new A and E 'Corridor' reception is utter..."

About: Kettering General Hospital / Accident and emergency

The previous A and E reception was well layed out, spacious and visibly organised.

I arrived this afternoon and was shocked that the reception is now in a constricted corridor, next to a set of doors.

Patients arrive in a state of confusion and it isn't at all clear what you need to do.

The 4 nurses behind the desk seemed to be very flustered, overworked and unclear on what they were doing, as regards who needed to be seen, when and why.

I was asked to wait in the tiny corridor, which blocks the through put of new patients and general foot fall.

People were walking in looking lost and the layout and signage didn't help their lack of direction.

The nurses unfortunately seemed almost detached from the process.

The receptionist only responded when I looked lost for a while in front of her. I witnessed this situation play out numerous times with other patients.

It seemed that there was no clear system in use, so I was sporadically asked if I had been seen to take my details yet.

After the third time of asking and several people trying to be seen, because they didn't know that i'd been their for a while, a confused person just stared at me silently, as i stood at the desk.

No, 'name please' or anything.

They then, after seeing their colleague say' I think that this man is next' , after their long silence, they said' do you wan't to be seen'.

I was so frustrated and annoyed, I stormed out and walked home.

. This is not a complaint against the nurses or the time, it is the lack of top down organisation in a quite obviously inappropriate physical setting.

Two other patients commented on how terrible the system and layout was, compared to the old site.
