I was horrified at the state of the room and with the nurses’ behaviour during my stay. The room I was in was not clean, blood drops were there for several days and, in my opinion, one of the nurses was the biggest bullies I have met.
I got off to a bad start on the first morning when I misheard the nurse asking me what I would like for breakfast.
I was so desperate to get out of the hospital I kept asking when I could see a doctor. I was told he would be here in a couple of minutes, two hours later I still had not seen a doctor, upon asking again I was told ‘in a minute’ in the end the only way I could be taken seriously was by lighting up a cigarette in the waiting room.
On one occasion, I was lying on the bed on my back when a nurse came along and told me very roughly to get up, to sit up. I was lying down as I had out my back out and found it difficult to move. There was no empathy, just ‘use your arms to pull yourself up with the side bars’, I strained my arms because of this.
I was eventually seen by a psychiatrist, she was the kindest person I met there.
In the end, I discharged myself. On discharge, I was also seen by another doctor who said I had been taken off one of my tablets for some inexplicable reason and that I must resume that medication straightaway. He said he would phone my local chemist and my GP to advise them so I could get the tablets I needed. I have called both the chemist and my GP, they have not heard from the hospital doctor. So much for restarting the medication and his promises to arrange it all.
"Disappointing service"
