"Telephone Appointment"

About: Mid & South Buckinghamshire Diagnostic NHS Centre

I was referred to this diagnostic centre by my GP for an ultrasound scan.

Unfortunately I ended up playing telephone tennis in trying to arrange an appointment for my scan.

The end result of this was that a phone call was made to my home number outside of normal office hours after 6pm.

I was eating dinner with my family and my father answered the phone - the person at the other end told him that they were calling from the NHS diagnostic centre and asked to speak to me.

I was mortified as I had wanted to keep the appointment private and personal - I hadn't told anyone about it.

As you can imagine this then put me in a very difficult position with my parents and sister wanting to know what the appointment was for etc.

To save someone else being put in this kind of situation can I please ask the people making the appointments to be very careful when they ring home/work numbers with the information that they give out re where they are calling from.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your appointment booking at The Mid and South Buckinghamshire Diagnostic Centre.

I am very sorry that receiving a call from our booking team to your home telephone number put you in a difficult position.

We always contact patients by telephone in order to arrange a convenient appointment date and time and we use contact numbers that are provided to us by referring GPs.

We do have to state where we are calling from as people receive so many calls, that we need to ensure people are aware of the importance of our call.

I can assure you that the type of examination or reasons for an examination would never be discussed with anyone other than the patient.

If you would prefer not to be contacted on your home telephone number, or to receive a postal appointment, it would be worth advising your GP in order that they can highlight this on your referral.

Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.
