"Concern about cancelled appointments"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Cardiology University Hospital Ayr / Geriatric Assessment

(as a relative),

My mother has had several appointments at Ayr Hospital and Crosshouse Hospital cancelled. I am particularly concerned about the cancellation of an appointment for Ayr Hospital. My Mother has been on warfarin for a long time, but was told to stop taking it due to another health condition. She does not have a new appointment as yet and we'd like her to have one as soon as possible to sort out her medication and health.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear appoint12,

I am so sorry we have had to cancel the appointment and I can fully appreciate your concern with the Warfarin situation adding to the issue. As I see it, there are some things that can be done that may help to get an earlier appointment.

In the short term, I wonder if your Mum has had a chat with her GP. Hopefully he can reassure your Mum that things are ok with the Warfarin being stopped. If he deems it clinically appropriate, he may be able to speak to the relevant Consultant and change the priority of the referral. This may result in an earlier appointment.

I wonder if your Mum can take a short notice appointment. If she can, have you contacted the service and let them know that? Again, you may be lucky and get an earlier appointment due to a cancellation.

I hope this help and your Mum gets seen soon.

If you feel there is anything else I can help with, please contact me on 01563 826222 or Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk.

Best wishes,

Eunice
