"Dad's care in A & E, Kings Ward, Cambridge L Ward"

Dad, who was 92 at the time, had a very bad fall at home in early March. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Excellent care by the paramedics.

In A and E, although a long evening and night, dad was treated with respect and care. Then he was transferred to Kings Ward for a while, where again he was well looked after.

Finally, dad went to Cambridge L Ward where he spent around 5 weeks. We had various times of thinking in the early days that he might recover enough to go home or later on we hoped that he might make it to a nursing home, but unfortunately he had various problems and died eventually in early May. He was 93 years old then and had had his birthday in the ward. The care he was given in Cambridge Ward was exemplary. The love and care that was given to each patient in that ward was outstanding. All the staff - doctors, nurses, people who served the meals etc - were lovely and respectful. My family spent every day but one with dad and were amazed at how kind all the staff were. There was one elderly man who had no visitors, but all the staff addressed him by name and were respectful of him. That was very moving to see. I felt that I was fully informed as to what was happening to dad and although it was a sad end for us, felt he had been well looked after. All that time, dad was always clean and tidy. When he was dying, the nurse stayed with us till the end, gave us such kind words.

Please pass on our gratitude to all on the Wards but particularly Cambridge Ward.

My mum had also been in William Harvey 11 years ago, for about 4 weeks and we had found her care excellent as well.

It's sad that so many people are cynical about the NHS but I can only say thank you so much for what you did for both my parents. We are very grateful indeed.
