Phoenix Ward at Medway Maritime have just nursed my Dad from his admittance on Good Friday to his Death in the early hours on Bank Holiday Monday. He wasn't expected to survive the night on Good Friday but somehow struggled on with an end of life plan in place and agreed by my Mum and my sister and myself.
Every member of staff on Phoenix Ward were excellent. They were true caring professionals who were courteous and respectful to my Dad and all our family. These girls have found their vocation despite the Maritime being in special measures and having such dire press almost on a daily basis. The powers that be should ask these girls to mentor other less well performing staff to show them what its all about being a true nurse.
Thanks to each and every member of staff but particular thanks to Caroline, Meena, Katie and Michelle - Michelle was on her final few days of placement on Phoenix Ward - this young lady will go far - look after her!
Our heartfelt thanks to all the girls for washing, turning and talking to our Dad, and for keeping him pain free. It is a comfort to us during this devastating time.
We want and need these staff members to hear our praise so they know they are appreciated and so they will continue to strive to provide this level of care and compassion to other patients.
