"ambulance service and treatment in a and e"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

My daughter had cause, as a last resort to call a paramedic re extreme and ongoing stomach pain which local doctors fail to resolve with any urgency. The paramedic (female) was just great and very attentive polite and helpful. There was no ambulance available for some time unfortunately so a very long wait ensued and eventually the para suggested I take my daughter( who could hardly move) to save time and get treatment more urgently. No Problem, But then this great girl suggested she take my daughter to enable gas and air to be continued in her vehicle en route..( fantastic attitude ) I was to follow. Upon arrival we met up and quickly referred to a cubicle where gas and air continued and then morphine introduced and blood tests taken. My daughter had severe bowell constriction and blockage with intense spasm pains to boot, This eased with morphine and blood tests were clear, Although an ultra sound scan had been booked via her GP this was still two weeks away, Why a scan could not be done there and then and thus results discussed I don't know . My daughter was sent home to continue using existing pain relief and drugs previously prescribed. but felt unwell still as no definite decision re cause or treatment necessary .A scan whilst there, may have shown up an issue which needed urgent treatment and prevent a costly call out again saving time and many more pain filled days and nights, Where are all the ambulances? . Overall I found all the staff accommodating and although over stretched, very patient and efficient, Government issues abound no doubt and our NHS needs more money not targets to help repair people and get them back to work quicker and save resources in the long run. Overall a very good service
