What could be improved
Cleanliness in the patient toilets on ward 13 where i was was appalling! So many cardboard urine samples left uncollected (why ask patients to do them if nurses havent time to collect them?) possibility of someone who is a bit unsteady on their feet could fall over/in them! Bin was overflowing with paper towels and a hospital gown on top of all that! bearing in mind most patients use this toilet to have a wash, clean teeth, get dressed etc so the sink became grubby very quickly. On this particular day early morning i mentioned it to a nurse who said the cleaner must have missed the toilets and she would get it sorted...that didnt happen until the evening!! A few nurses were very unapproachable and snappy if you asked for anything (one had me in tears..they have to remember we as patients do not want to be in there! and want to get home as soon as possible). The rsponse time when pressing the buzzer for help to was not acceptable, i lost count the amount of times i had to go and find a nurse for the poor lady in the next bed to me who kept on vomiting and needed help to clean up..then we wonder why infections spread! I have to say my whole experience in the five days i was in there has traumatised me by what i saw, the above is just a little of my experience.
