My wife having multiple sclerosis was admitted to ward 7D on the 25 March having an acute urinary tract infection. She was left on a trolley for 12 hours and eventually was admitted to ward 7D where it transpired that the bed had been unoccupied for most of that day. She was left in that bed for 2 weeks and each time she asked to be transferred to an adjacent chair she was met by' 'I have not been trained to do that'' (Health and Safety??) It is most essential that those with MS are not left lying in a bed but need to be regularly transferred to a chair otherwise their mobility is severely impaired. My wife is a highly trained nurse being trained at the Royal United Hospital in Bath in the 50's and the only health and safety issue then was that of the patient! My wife is now being treated at the wonderful enablement centre at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre where the damage imposed by the neglect at ward 7D is being dealt with.
