I wasn't intending on posting here but reading another story about poor care here I felt I should. I have had two miscarriages, and two subsequent ERPC's (Evacuation of retained products of conception).
Whilst I could not fault the staff who were with me and my husband when we first found out, on both occasions for the day (or 24 hours as it ended up being both times) I was in for the ERPC my care was very poor. A mixture of poor staff attitude; doctors not being available and constantly being told they were too busy delivering babies (not exactly what you want to be hearing when waiting to have yours removed - of course you want for those babies to be delivered safely and can see they are priority but at the same time it was the lowest point of my life and I needed to be out of there as soon as possible not constantly being told it won't be much longer!).
The second time round the clinical care wasn't up to scratch either with mistakes in my pre-op medication; taking my blood three times because they lost and mislabelled the other two; and failing to complete the patient consent form properly so I ended up having to go through it all just outside theatre which then really scared me.
The last straw and the reason I hope never to go back to York again was the fact that despite having had my baby removed from me surgically at York at 12 weeks pregnant - 3 weeks later they invited me for a 20 week scan - totally inexcusable!
I have since had another miscarriage very recently but chose to have it medically managed at St James in Leeds - the care was much better and the staff much more understanding. York had never even offered me this alternative to surgery.
"I also had poor care at York (twice) after a miscarriage "
