I was seen fairly quickly, within 30 minutes of my appointment. The visit concluded with what I was there for which is an appointment for surgery. My only complaint was that my decision to get my fibroadenoma removed was massively discouraged by the doctor or nurse who I was seeing. I am a university student and visited an NHS hospital in Lincoln and was encouraged to get my lump removed (to my relief as it is not something I really want). However this hospital has a very different policy and it seemed the lady I was seeing was going to do everything she could to discourage me to have surgery. I felt as though she didnt think I knew what I was doing and kept insisting I leave it and just come back for yearly scans. I understand that she was informing me, but I felt as though she was trying to scare me away from the idea of surgery and was criticizing the practicies of Lincolns hospital (which I had a far better experience with), as they gave me a core biopsy, which I wanted anyway for peace of mind, but she made a point that their hospital wouldnt have even given me a core biopsy. She was friendly enough, I just found like I had to justify why I wanted the fibroadenoma removed and made me feel as though to book me in for surgery would be an inconvenience to them. I was about to say "don't worry I will get it removed in Lincoln instead" when she let up and said she will put me in for the surgery. However went on to remind me that if I decide against it I can be booked in for yearly scans (which would be unecessary hassle) as though a last ditch attempt to change my mind. I would get the fibroadenoma removed in Lincoln as they are much more willing and considerate of my choices, however that would interfere with my university course and also I would like my family along side me when I have it done. Overall an ok visit, but just a reminder that decisions of patients should not be swayed for the convenience of the hospital. And I hope my visit for the surgery is somewhat more compassionate.
"The visit was okay. Though not the best."
