After being discharged from ward 17 two weeks ago having never seen a ConsuItant, I was disappointed on my visit to see the Paediatrician with my 7 year old son who had been suffering severe headaches and dizziness for 4 weeks. The Consultant had limited eye contact with myself, said he didn't know what the cause was and left my son without pain relief despite a pain score of 9! Calpol, Ibuprofen and Dyhydrocodiene are non effective and he made no effort to discuss with the Neuro doctors in Leeds so he could send us away with a prescription (this was supposed to be done on the ward before discharge and wasn't even done at the outpatient appointment). He didn't have is card available to view my sons MRI scan and so was unable to answer my questions regarding inner and middle ear problems. He asked me what i wanted him to do which is not appropriate when he is the consultant! It is quite obvious i want my sons pain taking care of. I mentioned that my son had back pain and could that be the cause so we are awaiting a spinal MRI which i suggested and an appointment to the Opthamologist due to the dizziness (my suggestion also). However I had to push for further investigation and I am still left with a child in severe pain.
