"I have nothing but praise for all the staff"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department South Tyrone Hospital / Day Procedure Unit

(as a service user),

I had my tonsils removed in September 2025 in South Tyrone Day surgery. I only had to wait 5 weeks on the adult waiting list which was amazing. After 3 months of constant tonsillitis, several ED visits and admissions for quinsy, the relief was immense.

The treatment and care I received in ED and on the ward from the nurses, doctors, student nurses, health care assistants and domestic staff was excellent. They were kind, patient and caring. Even when there was the IT/ internet outage in September the staff remained calm, professional and got on with their jobs even though it must have been extremely challenging and stressful. The on call ENT doctor saw me very quickly and immediately treated me with IV antibiotics, IV steroids, IV analgesia and admitted me to the ward to have the abscess drained.

The staff in South Tyrone Day Surgery were excellent. I was extremely nervous as I never had any previous surgery or an anaesthetic. The nurses kept me calm and kept my Mum up to date on how I was doing after the surgery and when she could collect me. I have nothing but praise for all the staff I encountered. Even something simple as both my Mum and I getting a cup of tea and biscuits in ED was very much welcomed and appreciated as I know the staff were extremely busy, especially as they had to go back to paper and pen temporarily. I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff involved in my care.

Good evening.

Thank you for taking the time to post about your experience in ED and apologies for the delay in responding.

I am delighted to hear that you received excellent care from all staff whilst in our care. It is wonderful to hear these positive stories and a great reflection on the care the staff are providing.

Yes the It outage was a very challenging situation and the staff were amazing in their roles, I am so glad that this was seen by patients too like yourself.

I have shared your kind words with the ED nursing and medical team, feedback like this is great for staff morale. Thank you again for posting and I hope you are recovering well.

Update posted by Lilygr (a service user)

Good morning, thank you for your response. My Mum was a ward manager and encouraged me to comment on the excellent care I received as she was with me each time I needed treatment She explained that all feedback positive or negative is really important. If positive it is important that staff members know that their care and treatment was very much appreciated. If negative it can help identify areas that could possibly be improved. All the ED staff were very professional during the IT outage in what was obviously a very difficult and stressful time for them. Once again, thank you to everyone involved with in any aspect of my care and treatment.

Regards
