I had my tonsils removed in September 2025 in South Tyrone Day surgery. I only had to wait 5 weeks on the adult waiting list which was amazing. After 3 months of constant tonsillitis, several ED visits and admissions for quinsy, the relief was immense.
The treatment and care I received in ED and on the ward from the nurses, doctors, student nurses, health care assistants and domestic staff was excellent. They were kind, patient and caring. Even when there was the IT/ internet outage in September the staff remained calm, professional and got on with their jobs even though it must have been extremely challenging and stressful. The on call ENT doctor saw me very quickly and immediately treated me with IV antibiotics, IV steroids, IV analgesia and admitted me to the ward to have the abscess drained.
The staff in South Tyrone Day Surgery were excellent. I was extremely nervous as I never had any previous surgery or an anaesthetic. The nurses kept me calm and kept my Mum up to date on how I was doing after the surgery and when she could collect me. I have nothing but praise for all the staff I encountered. Even something simple as both my Mum and I getting a cup of tea and biscuits in ED was very much welcomed and appreciated as I know the staff were extremely busy, especially as they had to go back to paper and pen temporarily. I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff involved in my care.
"I have nothing but praise for all the staff"
