"The service I received was exemplary"

About: Western General Hospital / Same day emergency care (SDEC)

(as the patient),

Following initial investigation in A&E I was referred to the Same Day Emergency Care Unit in the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.

I was met at reception by Paul who couldn’t have been more helpful and showed me to the waiting area where there was complimentary tea, coffee, etc. After a short wait I was taken into a treatment room where an ultrasound scan was meticulously carried out by Dr Davies, then back to the waiting room and after another short wait I was taken into a consultation room where Paul gave me the most clear and understandable explanation of the results from the scan, illustrating his summary with sketches in felt tip pen on the table top and throwing in a good dollop of humour at the same time.

Thankfully I did not have a Thrombosis and I was free to leave greatly reassured.

The service I received was exemplary, all the staff were wonderful ,Paul in particular.

Thanks to everyone.

Dear Asteropett66,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of your recent visit to the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC). I’m glad to hear that your time there was so positive. It’s wonderful to know that individual members of staff made such a meaningful difference. Paul and Dr Davies will be delighted to hear how their thoughtful and attentive care helped you. Clear, reassuring explanations can make such a difference during a worrying time, and I’m pleased this was your experience.

I have shared you story with the SDEC service and they will ensure Paul and Dr Davies receive a copy of your feedback.

Thank you once again,

best wishes

Mariska

Hi Mariska,

thanks for your response and I’m glad that you will forward my review to Paul and dr Davies.

we hear so much in the news about problems in the NHS but less so about how brilliant it can be, I just wish news journalists would present a more balanced view. The easiest thing in the world is to be critical, but just let them try working in the NHS, they would soon see how difficult and challenging it is.

our NHS is a national treasure.
