"My child was knocked down"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatrics Major Trauma team Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

My child was knocked down by a car at a pedestrian crossing. He was hit a quite a force maybe 30 to 40 mph. He was thrown in the air and knocked unconscious. I was obviously extremely worried and upset and it was the not knowing how he was going to be that was the main worry. He was with his older brother that said he was floppy and thought he had broke his back. Physically he was absolutely fine and it was quite a miracle that he didn’t break any bones, but the trauma of the event has stayed with him and the whole family. The paramedics/ trauma team and hospital care was amazing .

Dear augustcf43,

As a mum of 2 small kids I can only imagine how worrying this must have been for you and for your family. I'm so pleased that your child turned out to be OK and he received a great level of care from the ambulance crew and hospital staff. Thank you for sharing your feedback especially after such a traumatic event. I hope your child, you and your family are recovering ok after the event.

Stories like these make such a big difference to our teams. If you’re happy to do so, please send the name, date, time and address of the call out to sas.feedback@nhs.scot so we can match your message with the crew. It would also be helpful if you could include your Care Opinion username so we can share your story with the team involved.

If your child is old enough and would like to share their own thoughts, they might enjoy using the Care Opinion bear, a friendly way for younger voices to tell us what they think. You can find out more at https://www.careopinion.org.uk/info/bear.

Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback- it really does mean a lot.
Warmest wishes,

Marie
