I bashed my middle finger so that the tip was floppy. A&E were efficient and caring - explaining what I had done, what I needed to do and gave me a leaflet re mallet finger injury and put me in a temporary splint.
I was booked into the hand clinic at the first available appointment.
They clearly explained the importance of following the treatment plan, which I was keen to do, so that I could regain the use of my finger. Erica the OT quickly made me a splint and I persisted with the next 6 weeks of wearing it. When it came off I was concerned about the stiffness and soreness but was reassured both by the consultant who set up the clinic, and the OT that it would take 6 months and more to regain strength and mobility. Almost a year later, I am delighted that the finger stays straight but also bends well - I can play the piano and do everything functionally.
I was delighted to be able to access this amazing service providing excellent knowledge and care . I have heard of so many people recently who have not had the same access or outcomes.
My sincere thanks to the team who made such a difference to my daily life by rescuing my finger! You saw so many people in that clinic but treated each one with great care. You really are the best 👏🏻
