Admitted to A&E at the QEUH due to swelling of my tongue and throat.
Met a Dr who took three attempts at putting in a canula and eventually they opted to put it in the back of my hand?
On taping the canula, the doctor dropped the dressing on the floor. They then picked it up and put it over the newly inserted canula!
It was pointed out that this should not have happened and a new dressing sought but it was ignored! Infection control does not matter? I will take this matter up further with the hospital's infection control as I am sure they will be interested in this type of error.
Happily I was moved to ARU5, where the Dr's , nurses and support staff were excellent and could not do enough for me.
"Poor infection control"
