I had a splitting headache early Sept and rang 111 about 7pm the service recommended I call 999 for an ambulance. I was told the wait was 2/3 hours as they were busy. About 9pm a clinician called me told me there were no ambulances available could I get someone to drive me to A/e at Guildford. My wife took me there and I was quickly assessed and had to sit and wait for the doc in 5 hours on a plastic chair. Once I'd see a lovely lady doc I was sent for a brain C/T scan. I got the results about 30mins later I was advised of a small brain bleed put on a couch bed and subsequently rushed to St George's, Tooting arriving at 7am the next day.
You know brain bleeds are serious but I was sitting up waiting all night. Not on a couch resting and being monitored properly.
Spending all night on a seat in A and E is no joke for an unwell 77 year old. Other oldies were also having to endure some in their pyjamas!
Fortunately I recovered and had wonderful treatment at St George's and able to write this report.
"Fortunate to have wonderful treatment after the wait"
