My Dad is in his 90s, and had been living independently fell and broke his leg in April this year. After 5 weeks in between 3 hospitals he eventually got home.
He was very weak and despite the best efforts of the team he was unable to regain the strength to stand and regain mobility.. However it was his dearest wish to be able to sit out of bed in a chair and hopefully eventually in a wheel chair.
The rehabilitation team worked hard to get a hoist into his home and then after changing his bedroom so it was easier to move the hoist Dad was able to get out to sit. It was tiring for him and the two staff, Oran OT and Angela assistant provided such care, encouragement and confidence. Gradually Dad was able to build up his sitting tolerance so that now the carers will be able to get him up everyday if he wishes.
This has given him a sense of independence and dignity and encouraged him to continue trying to build up his strength. Mentally for him it has been such a positive step in his adapting to his new situation.
A huge thanks to this excellent team, who worked with us his family, helping us to adapt his environment to make this happen
