My husband was admitted to Hairmyres hospital in February this year. He was extremely agitated with his dementia.
He became slightly aggressive trying to leave the ward. They moved him to a single room and things went downhill fast. He was confined to the room with 2 mental health nurses. They could have taken him a walk along the corridor but they didn't. His frustration built and he ended up wrecking the room and attacking staff.
I was broken-hearted. The consultant advised he would be better in Udston hospital. It took a good few weeks for him to settle but they did a fantastic job and got his medication sorted. 12 weeks later he was admitted to Abbey Dale and has settled really well.
"My husband has settled well with the right accommodation"
