After several weeks jumping over GP hurdles, I finally got an appointment at the chest pain clinic. Unfortunately the nurse I saw seemed totally disinterested, said I was likely just experiencing pain and exhaustion from an existing condition and that I should lose weight and exercise more.
Yes, I live with a chronic pain and fatigue condition, but after 23 years I know when things are different. And Yes, I am carrying a little extra weight, but we're talking 7lbs over a healthy weight range not several stones. I left my appointment feeling like a complete idiot and a total inconvenience.
Although I am frustrated by the pace of action of GP services my local surgery have been fully supportive and engaged, taking the time to listen and actively looking at possible causes. This has made my experience at the hospital pain clinic so much more stark.
