"Paramedic care - gold star!"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I have quite a complex health history. November last year I collapsed which resulted in me having to be transferred to DCN at Edinburgh and having 5 surgeries in 6 months.

Since discharge, I have had a few flare ups which have meant I needed to call for help. Every time it happens, I've been taken to A&E, which as you can imagine when your head is exploding isn't the best place!

One such flare up happened last Saturday. I called for help and a lovely Scottish Ambulance Service crew came to see me. It was Rhys and Viv. Straight from the off I could tell that Rhys knew what he was talking about when it came to my condition, which made things so much easier for me.

He asked if I had a plan for when I had a flare up and I told him the advice I was given was go to A&E. He wasn't happy with that so said he would make a call and try get me into AU1 instead of going through A&E.

And he did! It meant that it was quieter and I was seen soooo much quicker. Don't get me wrong, there was still a wait but it was at least a quieter area to wait.

I don't think Rhys knew what he did meant to me so I wanted to pop a little compliment on here. I spoke to one of the nurses and she told me that he was recently qualified as a paramedic, I think he will do very well - I've had plenty of experience with paramedics and he was the best I've seen yet.

Thanks again Rhys! :)

Dear Crafter80

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It’s truly encouraging to hear how Rhys and Viv supported you with such care and initiative during a challenging moment. Rhys’s understanding of your condition and his efforts to get you into AU1 clearly made a meaningful difference to your care and comfort.

They’ll really appreciate you sending these kind comments in. If you’d like us to get this message to them directly, we’d need a few more details such as the name, date, time and address of the call out sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot so we can match it with the information in our system. Please also include your Care Opinion username so we can share your story with the crew.

Wishing you continued strength and comfort in your recovery.

Warm regards
