"Paramedic care - gold star!"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I have quite a complex health history. November last year I collapsed which resulted in me having to be transferred to DCN at Edinburgh and having 5 surgeries in 6 months.

Since discharge, I have had a few flare ups which have meant I needed to call for help. Every time it happens, I've been taken to A&E, which as you can imagine when your head is exploding isn't the best place!

One such flare up happened last Saturday. I called for help and a lovely Scottish Ambulance Service crew came to see me. It was Rhys and Viv. Straight from the off I could tell that Rhys knew what he was talking about when it came to my condition, which made things so much easier for me.

He asked if I had a plan for when I had a flare up and I told him the advice I was given was go to A&E. He wasn't happy with that so said he would make a call and try get me into AU1 instead of going through A&E.

And he did! It meant that it was quieter and I was seen soooo much quicker. Don't get me wrong, there was still a wait but it was at least a quieter area to wait.

I don't think Rhys knew what he did meant to me so I wanted to pop a little compliment on here. I spoke to one of the nurses and she told me that he was recently qualified as a paramedic, I think he will do very well - I've had plenty of experience with paramedics and he was the best I've seen yet.

Thanks again Rhys! :)
