My young son cracked his molar tooth and after phoning NHS24 I was told that NHS Lanarkshire doesn't offer evening emergency dental appointments and he would have to go to his normal dentist. He was referred to the dental hospital some time ago due to needing extensive dental work because of long term antibiotic use, my child is disabled and has high level of additional support needs and has today been left to suffer. The dentist refused to even look in his mouth because he wouldn't sit in the chair, gave us a prescription for antibiotics and said he would try and get us "moved up the list".
This is, in my opinion, a violation of Article 3 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
My child has the right to live without torture and in leaving him without the necessary medical care and attention he needs NHS Lanarkshire is torturing him. Children who are born disabled have the right to access healthcare and our children should not be punished because of a poorly managed NHS.
Being told that he will need to wait 3 YEARS to access emergency dental care is abhorrent. He has a cracked molar, his nerves are exposed and the dentist he saw wouldn't even make the necessary adjustments to examine him.
