"Did their job professionally and with a smile on their face"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Acute Medical Unit Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Minor Injuries Unit Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Trauma and Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

On a Saturday mid July 2025, I was putting on my walking boots so that I could go out to walk my dogs, as I was fixing my laces, I heard a click on my left knee. I couldn't straighten my left leg and I fell over, eventually I managed to straighten my leg, but after a couple of hours, I felt the need to phone NHS 24. The person who took my call was called Abbey, she was amazing, the Nurse who came into the call was called Mary, she certainly knew her stuff, she advised me that I should attend the small injuries clinic to have my knee seen to.

I received a call advising me that there was an available appointment at 2.30pm at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, I took the appointment. From the staff at the minor injuries unit to the staff at A & E (sorry, I don't remember any names), were simply fantastic. I was admitted to the Acute Medical Unit on Saturday evening, again, I couldn't fault the staff.

Late Sunday afternoon, I was moved to Ward 109 and I was there until I was discharged on the Tuesday afternoon. What can I say about the staff in this ward, they were simply outstanding, the staff knew what they were doing, the ward ran like clockwork. The care that I received was brilliant, anything that I needed, no matter how small, the staff were only willing to help me. The nurse explained to me what my new medication was and explained to me how to take it.

When I left the hospital, I felt that I was important to the staff, they did their job professionally and with a smile on their face. To all the staff from NHS 24, and everyone at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, I thank you from the bottom of my hearts. We have a wonderful Health Service, don't abuse it.

Dear Kilodp68

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. I noticed that your story mentioned a few different services, and I am replying on behalf of NHS 24.

I was sorry to hear that you had to contact 111 due to your knee clicking resulting in you not being able to straighten your left leg. However, I am delighted to hear about the positive patient journey you experienced and delighted NHS 24 played a part of your journey. From the initial call to the 111 service to the care you received in Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. It’s wonderful to know you felt important to the staff who did their job professionally throughout your care.

If you would like to share more information with me, including your Care Opinion username, I can locate the staff you spoke with from NHS 24 and share your kind words with them. We always strive to ensure that our staff receive positive feedback so they can see how much their care is valued when people call our services. I am sure they would be thrilled to hear that you found them to be so professional, courteous, and helpful.
