On a Saturday mid July 2025, I was putting on my walking boots so that I could go out to walk my dogs, as I was fixing my laces, I heard a click on my left knee. I couldn't straighten my left leg and I fell over, eventually I managed to straighten my leg, but after a couple of hours, I felt the need to phone NHS 24. The person who took my call was called Abbey, she was amazing, the Nurse who came into the call was called Mary, she certainly knew her stuff, she advised me that I should attend the small injuries clinic to have my knee seen to.
I received a call advising me that there was an available appointment at 2.30pm at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, I took the appointment. From the staff at the minor injuries unit to the staff at A & E (sorry, I don't remember any names), were simply fantastic. I was admitted to the Acute Medical Unit on Saturday evening, again, I couldn't fault the staff.
Late Sunday afternoon, I was moved to Ward 109 and I was there until I was discharged on the Tuesday afternoon. What can I say about the staff in this ward, they were simply outstanding, the staff knew what they were doing, the ward ran like clockwork. The care that I received was brilliant, anything that I needed, no matter how small, the staff were only willing to help me. The nurse explained to me what my new medication was and explained to me how to take it.
When I left the hospital, I felt that I was important to the staff, they did their job professionally and with a smile on their face. To all the staff from NHS 24, and everyone at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, I thank you from the bottom of my hearts. We have a wonderful Health Service, don't abuse it.
