"A wonderful advertisement for the NHS"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Radiology (X-ray) North Devon District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

Broke femur in fall in March 2025. Taken to Glossop Ward where I underwent surgery and where I remained for 10 days. Treatment and conditions were excellent and following my discharge, my experience of the Radiology dept-DXA was similarly good. Karl took time to explain all the procedures to me and was very reassuring. Ambulance staff were kind and made a return for the scan punctual. All together, they have been a wonderful advertisement for the often criticised NHS. My thanks to all involved in what could have been an unpleasant experience. It certainly was not!

I am a Diagnostic Radiographer with many years experience of working, and imaging patients, in all areas of the Radiology department. I am also responsible for the governance in Radiology and so make sure that we are compliant with the many ionising radiation regulations that dictate what we can and can't do in radiology, keep the patients and staff safe and ensure we are practicing safely. I also deal with our policies and procedures and oversee compliments, complaints and quality.
