"Exceptional care received at Dewsbury Hospital"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

My wife & I have been visiting her sister in West Yorkshire over the past couple of weeks. Last week I had a serious medical situation which resulted in me being hospitalised for a week at the Dewsbury Hospital. I would like to start by saying that, without exception, the staff I came into contact with were the most caring, considerate and professional group of people that I have ever dealt with in all my years. I arrived at Accident & Emergency in an ambulance having already been seen by a paramedic. The emergency team from Yorkshire Ambulance were brilliant and I am so appreciative of their actions and quick response. The handover from the ambulance crew to the team at A&E was seamless and the evaluation process started straight away. After a time in A&E, and a trip to X-ray for a chest X-ray, I was transferred to the Medical Evaluation Unit. The team there were excellent and the doctor who initially saw me decided to call in the registrar who was a diabetic specialist. Having arrived early in the morning, by 11:00pm I found myself transferred to Ward 15 and placed in their care. During the week I was seen by numerous doctors including a dr of the diabetes unit. Two of his diabetes nurses came to see me on a number of occasions and were so caring and spent so much time with me to under stand the symptoms I was experiencing and the possible ways that we could get my highly erratic blood glucose levels back on track. Additionally, I was sent for a CT Scan, an ultrasound and had a 24 hour heart monitor fitted. The staff I dealt with during those procedures were just brilliant and so attentive. I spent the week in the care of the staff on Ward 15. I feel extremely fortunate for having been sent to them as they were, and are, absolutely wonderful. They are so kind, so caring and above all so professional. Due to their workload they were always busy but never too busy to deal with their patients' questions, concerns and needs. Without exception, every member of the Ward 15 team went out of their way to look after all of their patients needs. Their attitude was consistently cheerful and positive and I personally found it a real pleasure to be in their company and their care. In my professional career spanning circa 50 years I have formed, led and been part of numerous teams. In my opinion, the team on Ward 15 is one the best I have ever encountered. I don't know if you have a "Team of the Year" award program but if you do I would not hesitate to nominate them and recommend them for such an award. As far as I am concerned they are by far and away "Simply the Best"! So, in closing, I would like you to please pass on my sincere thanks to all the members of staff at Dewsbury & District Hospital for all the care that they gave me over the past week. In particular I have to single out the diabetes care team and above all the entire team on Ward 15. David Murray
