"I have psoriasis arthritis"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

I have had this for years now. I was on a medication but was taken off it as it was damaging my liver. The consultant at Hairmyres said that I would be put on a bio drug instead but this was weeks ago and I’m still waiting for a prescription to start this treatment and any relevant info. I’m in so much pain now as I have nothing to treat this condition. I went to the hospital at rheumatology and was given a steroid injection to reduce the inflammation. The nurse told me that the consultant had stated I needed to go on a bio treatment but not stated which one. It’s a week now and even the nurses who have been great have seemingly had no communication. I have called a few times this week but still no medication put in place. I have now had to buy a walking stick as I am struggling to walk with all the inflammation in my feet. I cannot go on much more with this pain. I can’t live on pain killers. I can’t understand why my replacement treatment has not been put in place even though I’ve been off the original medication for 2 months.

Dear Lesley1951,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Hairmyres.

I am sorry to hear about the delay in getting your new prescription for the replacement medication. This must be very frustrating for you. I can only imagine how much so given the pain you are in and that the nurses have not been given the information so they can help you.

Please can I ask that you contact our Patient Affairs team so they can investigate this and provide a personal response?

Best Wishes,

Jenni

Hi thank you for replying I have been in touch with them they were going to call me back and get the staff to call me but no callback has happened yet but the consultant as worked out my medication and put it on my notes the prescription has been done but has still not signed it so it cannot go to the pharmacy until the consultant has signed it so another week I’m still without medication.

Dear Lesley1951

Thank you for updating on the lack of progress regarding your treatment for psoriasis arthritis. I am sorry to read that you have not been called back and that you are still waiting for your medication.

I can see from your initial feedback that this is causing you a great deal of distress. I will make contact with patient affairs to request information so that we can follow this up for you and understand any factors causing a delay.

I offer my sincere apologies to you

Lise
