"Healthcare at Bellhouse"

About: Bell House Medical Centre

I’ve been a patient at this practice for several years, and unfortunately my experience has consistently been frustrating. Communication is poor, and even when I follow the correct procedures — such as providing requested information through the online form — it’s often missed or ignored.

Recently, I submitted a request for a repeat of my regular medication, including all the information they asked for. The request was denied entirely even when I spoke to the receptionist they said there wasn't anything they could do as the doctor feels it's not required. This happened just as I was preparing to move to a new area, and I clearly explained the urgency to avoid a gap in treatment — but there was no flexibility or understanding at all.

I’ve previously raised a formal complaint about how I’ve been treated, and the response I received was incredibly dismissive, essentially telling me I should be “grateful” for having had appointments in the first place. That kind of attitude is unacceptable when patients are simply trying to access basic care.

I will say that there are a couple of GPs at this practice who are kind, thorough, and supportive — and who don’t make you feel like you have to fight to be heard. Unfortunately, those positive experiences are rare.

Dear Patient

Thank you for your feedback. My name is Mel Quinn and I am the Practice Manager. I do apologise for your bad experiences and the upset this has caused you. The treatment you have received is not acceptable and I will take this to the Partners Practice Meeting to ensure they are aware of the difficulty patients face with medication when moving areas or surgery.

Any complaint is taken seriously and I do apologise that you feel the response to your previous one was dismissive, if you are still in the area I would be happy to meet you to discuss this, my contact details are 01582 817190 or bhmc.pm.bellhouse@nhs.net.

I apologise again for your bad and upsetting experience

Kind regards

Mel Quinn

Practice Manager
