My husband has a brain tumour Grade 4 Glioblastoma. He was diagnosed nearly 8 years ago and underwent surgery to remove 90 percent of the tumour followed by chemo and radiotherapy. His life expectancy was 1 year to 18 months. He is still with us today and thankfully all stable. He fractured his left hip 18 months ago and has a weakness in his leg and walks with a stick.
However, 5 weeks ago he fell getting out of the car on our driveway and broke his right hip. Our experience of Wishaw University Hospital was dreadful with Clive receiving very little physio and not being encouraged by staff to get up and walk to the toilet but instead being given bottles to urinate in as it was quicker. As a result my husband was discharged to single level living in the upstairs of our house as he could not manage stairs and was mobilising with a zimmer frame. He was a patient got 4 weeks and now has muscle weakness due to lack of appropriate rehab with physios. I feel that they looked at my husband’s diagnosis and not the determined man that he is.
Upon discharge he was referred to the Cambuslang and Rutherglen ICST That was a week and a half ago and he has been working with Andrew the Physio and Sam his Assistant. The difference in service my husband has received is immeasurable in comparison to Wishaw. He sees Andrew and Sam twice per week. They are amazing!!!! My husband is so much stronger and mobilising so much better. They have been working him on the stairs and confident he will be downstairs next week. The next goal is off the zimmer and onto crutches.
Andrew and Sam arrange times with us that suits us all. They have brought the sunshine back to my husband’s life as he has renewed determination and desperate to meet the challenges they pose him with the strengthening exercises. I cannot praise them enough and have full confidence that they will ensure that my husband meets his goals to be walking independently with confidence. They are professional exceptional physios and most of all care about their patients. They see the person and truly want to make things better and their confidence transcends to their patients.
Our journey is not complete but we have full confidence that we are in safe caring hands of Andrew and Sam. Can’t thank you both enough. We so appreciate you 👏👏👏
