I was taken by ambulance to Stafford Hospital on Tuesday 14/01/2014 having fallen off my bike on ice. This resulted in a bad fracture to my pelvis. Firstly the paramedics attending the scene were first class, dealt with my injury and extreme pain very well. They explained everything they were going to do before they did it and made me feel at ease. They transferred me to A&E, the first class treatment didn't stop there, I was dealt with quickly, had an X-Ray and a diagnosis made. Within 4 hrs of my accident I was on the Trauma & Orthopaedics Ward. A&E staff were excellent, I wasn't kept waiting, they checked me regularly and updated me. The staff on the ward are something else, very special. My side room was ready when I got there, I was booked in, various tests were done and I was settled in and again made to feel at ease. I was regularly kept up dated about my pending operation, seen by the anesthetist who explained everything thoroughly and then the consultant. What a star, he'd rushed from Cannock Hospital to operate on me as a matter of urgency due to the nature of my fracture. He was still out of breath as he explained what he was going to do. I was taken to theatre, prepared by two lovely ladies who were a great laugh and took my mind off the op. The anesthetist was there settled me down, the next thing I'm in recovery with a wonderful nurse calmly talking to me and bringing me round. She stayed with me all the way back to the ward and even the next day popped her head round the door to see how I was getting on. After the op I was regularly checked by staff, tea on tap and given a sandwich that they'd had prepared for me. My recovery then over the following few days was monitored and dealt with brilliantly, every member of staff whether nurse, sister, Orthopaedic Practitioner, physio, OT, volunteer, ward assistants, etc went out of their way to help me and put me on the road to recovery. I can't fault my treatment at Stafford Hospital, I wouldn't hesitate to go there again and fully recommend it to anyone. I know it's had bad press over the years, but my experience of the hospital has been superb and I couldn't have wished for more. Thank you to all the staff who have helped me, you're a credit to the NHS but more importantly, the people of Stafford.
