I recently spent four days in the Medical Day Unit at the QEUH.
I was sent here as, at the time of my admission there were no other beds available. Whilst the staff were all lovely and helpful, this unit is not suitable for overnight stays. It consists of cubicles similar to the ones in A&E but offers no hand washing facility.
There was no access to a shower for the duration of my stay, instead you could use a basin sitting at your bedside, bearing in mind there is only a curtain between you and the ward so a real privacy concern. The other option was to wash in a toilet that is open to everyone and it was the only toilet on the ward that was working.
Please rethink using this as a regular ward.
