"Please rethink using this as a regular ward"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Medical Day Unit

(as the patient),

I recently spent four days in the Medical Day Unit at the QEUH.

I was sent here as, at the time of my admission there were no other beds available. Whilst the staff were all lovely and helpful, this unit is not suitable for overnight stays. It consists of cubicles similar to the ones in A&E but offers no hand washing facility.

There was no access to a shower for the duration of my stay, instead you could use a basin sitting at your bedside, bearing in mind there is only a curtain between you and the ward so a real privacy concern. The other option was to wash in a toilet that is open to everyone and it was the only toilet on the ward that was working.

Please rethink using this as a regular ward.

Thank you for taking the time to post your recent hospital experience as an inpatient admitted to the Medical Day Unit.

It has been most unfortunate that during the time of your admission, it was necessary to open every available bed to facilitate a surge in patient admissions.

Please accept my sincere apologies with regards limited access to bathing facilities and restricted privacy during your admission.

Your kind words in relation to the care offered by staff will be shared with the team

Regards
