"Severe abdominal pain"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Gynaecology Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Surgical Assessment Unit Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Theatre & Recovery NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a service user),

I called NHS 24 on a Friday night regarding severe abdominal pain, to the point I could barely move. They told me there was nothing they could do and to phone back if the pain becomes worse. This resulted in me going to A&E early Saturday morning, where I had to have surgery as I had a ruptured cyst that caused internal bleeding. I feel like this could’ve been sorted or prevented a lot sooner if NHS 24 didn’t turn me away.

The staff in SAU FVRH were excellent with me! Couldn’t have asked for a better team to support me and explain everything to me clearly, ensuring I understood every aspect of what was going on.

Also, the staff in ward 6 (women and children) were amazing with me! Ensuring I was comfortable and had everything I needed. The staff in both these wards are such an amazing team and go above and beyond! Providing high quality care. A big thank you to ward 6 and SAU.

Dear leopardmd33

Many thanks for your lovely feedback regarding your recent admission to WD 6. I am delighted to read that despite your initial experience and subsequent admission, that the staff in WD 6 ensured your comfort and cared for you during this time..

I agree that the team do go above and beyond and I will share with them the positive impact they had on your recent inpatient experience.

I do hope you are recovering well at home.

Best Wishes

Kirsty MacInnes

Dear leopardmd33

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion, I am sorry to learn that you had cause to contact the 111 service when you were experiencing abdominal pain, I appreciate this would have been a frightening time.

I reply on behalf of NHS 24, I believe we may have already received your feedback and have been in correspondence with you. However, since Care Opinion is anonymous, I cannot be certain. If this is not the case, please contact us directly at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk and we would be pleased to look into this for you.

Thank you again for sharing your story and I hope you are recovering well from your surgery.

Kind Regards

Laura
