"They took the time to check our Dad over with great patience"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Ambulance Control Centre Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My elderly Dad had a seizure yesterday around mid-afternoon.

I called 999 and spoke to a very calm and helpful call handler.  She reassured me that I had done the right thing by calling.

Soon after the paramedics arrived.  Both Jamie and Emily were so so helpful and caring.  They took the time to check our Dad over with great patience and kindness towards our Dad.  Jamie explained what had happened and what his recommendations would be.  Emily checked Dads observations and heart tracing along with other tests.  Both of them are a credit to the NHS.

No one knows what anyone is going through and our Dad has had some very neglectful experiences since his accident 2 years ago whilst in hospital and 2 nursing homes.  People like Jamie and Emily treated us all with great empathy and great reassurance.  Told us not to hesitate to call an ambulance again, at any time.

We both felt much more at ease after their visit and are extremely thankful for their patience and time.  And are carrying on with our care for our Dad.  Thank you Jamie and Emily  🚑 .  ⭐️ ⭐️

Dear Carltonboy,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to read about your father's seizure- that must have been incredibly scary for you both. I hope that your dad is making a good recovery.

I'm really pleased to hear that you felt reassured and more at ease after the care your dad received by both the call handler and ambulance crew. The qualities that you have described- Empathy, Caring, Patience, Professionalism and Reassurance are all qualities that our staff strive to achieve and I'm sure the staff involved would be delighted to hear this very positive feedback.

I would love to be able to pass this wonderful feedback onto the call handler and Emily and Jamie. To do so we would need to know the date, time and address that the Ambulance attended and your father's name. This information can be sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot for the team to pick up. If you do decide to do this, would you be so kind as to make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily locate your story and share it with the crew.

I wish you and your dad all the very best and thanks again.

Kind Regards

Marie,

Patient Experience Manager
