"My husband had a stroke"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Physiotherapy / South Ayrshire Community Stroke and Neurological Physiotherapy Service Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My husband collapsed in the bathroom last month. The ambulance came in half an hour and had to wait outside A&E for about an hour. This was the only worrying bit. The rest of his treatment and indeed the paramedics in the ambulance were all excellent and comforting. He was sent home after 3 days with blood thinning tablets and the knowledge that he had atrial fibrillation which had caused the blood clot.

We have had an appointment with the Stroke nurse at Biggart and this too was extremely helpful and encouraging. There will be a phone appointment with his GP. All in all NHS Ayrshire and particularly Crosshouse were wonderful.

Dear Avril6,

I am sorry to hear about your husband's recent stroke and I hope that he is recovering well. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on his recent experience with the Ambulance Service and partners. It is great to hear positive stories about the work our wonderful staff and partners provide.

If you wish I can pass on the feedback to the crews directly. To do so we would need to know the date, time and address that the Ambulance attended and your husband's name. This information can be sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot for the team to pick up. If you do decide to do this, would you be so kind as to make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily locate your story and share it with the crew.

I wish you and your husband all the very best and thanks again for sharing your feedback.

Kind Regards
Marie,
Patient Experience Manager

Dear Avril6

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share this lovely feedback about the care provided by the Emergency Department and Ward 3E within University Hospital Crosshouse.

I sorry to hear that your husband required admission to hospital following a stroke. I can only imagine how scary and anxious this must have been for both of you. However, it is reassuring to know that he received such prompt, professional and compassionate care from our staff

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients, and it will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the wider Teams in the ED, Ward 3E and Biggart Hospital. I know they will all be delighted to receive this feedback and to know that you both felt so well supported whilst your husband was under their care

Please accept my best wishes for your husband’s ongoing recovery and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge his care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
