I noticed blood in my urine about two months ago and very quickly had scans and eventually a biopsy at my local hospital. Unfortunately the biopsy caused extensive bleeding and I had to check myself into a Bristol Hospital while en route to London. Further scans identified that the bleeding had slowed enough for me to be discharged and I was subsequently seen again at my local hospital to confirm this.
I had a consultation with a Specialist Urology clinic which identified a renal cancer which will be treated with microwave ablation.
Thought my visits to three hospitals and speaking to four different consultants I have to say that I have received excellent care and advice, sympathetic care and attention from nursing staff and a very positive experience throughout. The urology consultant I saw today at Ottery ST Mary clinic was very clear and professional in describing my condition and the options available to me. Yes , it can be very frustrating to be sitting in waiting rooms and on wards for hours at times waiting to see a consultant or doctor but overall I feel very fortunate to have the NHS at my back.
