I was recently denied an ambulance, my husband and I were desperate to get me to hospital and I could hardly move for severe abdominal pain and constant sickness ( later found out it was a bowel obstruction). I was almost passing out and from experience require anti sickness and pain management intravenously and hospitalisation at this point.
Because I did not have chest pains and was still able to communicate slightly, my husband was told I didn’t qualify for an ambulance. Despite mentioning I have severe Crohn’s disease and most likely an abdominal obstruction. This resulted in us having to find someone to give us a lift, deteriorating on the way there and ending up in A and E, were I was give anti sickness and pain relief. From experience this can be given by the ambulance service and this has happened in the past, so I’m unsure why I didn’t qualify this time?! Very disappointed and resulted in a longer hospital stay from the amount of fluid I had lost.
