"Some of the staff were so unkind"

About: Royal Bournemouth Hospital / General surgery

(as a service user),

I felt abandoned and treated appallingly on ward 16. Staff shouted and argued with another patient in a room on corridor. Stand up rows witnessed.

Nasty, unpleasant atmosphere if you ask for anything. Certain members of staff stood around and chatted with their favourites. Told off for crying in the night.

The ward was filthy - floor had food trodden in, tops were dirty and unclean. Had to wipe down myself.

No help going to toilet - said they were too busy.

No asthma medication arrived after 7 days and we all had to share our inhalers on the ward. Requests to the pharmacy ignored.

The whole experience was frightening and deeply traumatic.

Jobey and Rafa were the most amazingly kind and compassionate nurses. They cared and listened. But some of the ward staff in ward 16 were so unkind and nasty about the patients.

Dear Trawd94,

I am so very sorry for the experiences you have described during your stay on ward 16 at Bournemouth hospital.

It is most concerning to read about the issues you have mentioned and I will escalate these to the Ward Lead.

It saddens me to read that the nursing staff were not kind. This is not in keeping with our Trust Values and the atmosphere you have mentioned is not one we as a Trust would condone or encourage. This, as well as some of the issues you have raised regarding your treatment and the cleanliness of the ward do require further investigation.

Please contact us either via email to patientexperienceteam@uhd.nhs.uk or by telephone on 0300 019 8499 so that we might apologise personally and also gather some more information so that we can look into this.

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention, please accept my heartfelt apologies for your experiences.

I will pass on your compliments to the compassionate staff you have mentioned.

With Kind Regards

The Patient Experience Team
