"Exceptionally wonderful staff"

About: Maternity care / Labour suite maternity Maternity care / Maternity Assesment/Triage

(as a parent/guardian),

Rachel and Claire (both midwifes): Claire looked after my Daughter during labour on nightshift and Rachel on dayshift, both these ladies were nothing more than very professional, kind, caring and very person centred! They made our experience wonderful, always going above and beyond.

They never expressed any stresses that the hospital was under at this time due to diversion, which we knew about due to a different staff member continually telling us this and the fact they had no beds and where short of staff, which I found very unprofessional and adding to the stress of an expecting mum. 7 hours wait in maternity assessment unit! I feel this area or staff member in particular should be addressed.

However fast forward to labour suite and it was like a different hospital. I can't speak any more highly of both these ladies in labour ward previously mentioned, the handover was clearly delivered so well which made us especially expecting mum feel comfortable and well looked after. My daughter chose a particular plan of birth and they liaised with the correct professionals to help her obtain enough information about this, they also helped support us as birthing partners.

Once again I'll express absolutely exceptional care from both ladies and we were wondering if there is somehow we could be informed of how to nominate for future health awards!

Dear Alan&Suzy,

Many thanks for taking the time to tell us about your daughter's experience here at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Maternity Unit in Glasgow during the birth of your baby.

It is amazing to read how wonderful Rachel and Claire were and how professional, caring and kind they were in Labour ward enabling your daughter to have such a wonderful experience which is always our aim here.

I am so sorry that the high level of activity and the unit being on divert was communicated to you in such a negative way and this is only done in times of high activity to ensure the safety of our women and babies. I am sorry that your daughter had to wait for 7 hours in our Maternity Triage area before accessing Labour Ward for the one to one exceptional, personalised care which Claire and Rachel were able to give your daughter.

I will ensure that both Claire and Rachel receive your positive feedback and gratitude and it would be very helpful of you would be happy to contact me directly to share your details in order to address the issues you experienced within Maternity Triage.

Thank you again for the lovely feedback and best wishes to you and your family.
