"A lovely, caring physio"

In October/November 2023 I had ongoing lower back pain also right knee was niggling and was sent for an x-ray I was told nothing significant was wrong even though the pain was becoming intense, I am a Hair stylist and on my feet a lot but had to cut back on days to two and a half as I was struggling, I have degeneration in various levels of my spine, also bilateral cervical ribs and this has been giving me neck and shoulder pain.

In January my right knee gave way and the pain was off the scale, I was shaking and my colour was drained out of me, and I was in agony trying to go up stairs , coming down I was squealing, it felt as though the muscles were getting pulled off my leg and the burning was terrible, it was also affecting my right ankle which has instability.

I went privately during lockdown to have ploratherapy done, in total I got 15 injections,  it stabilised my ankle and didn't have any bother from it until my knee gave way.  I couldn't even touch my leg it was so tender.

I spoke to a neurosurgeon that I had been referred to at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, he had an MRI done of my lower spine so I'm now waiting on a spinal injection to see if this gives me some relief, but no-one had seen my knee as I didn't go to hospital at the time, I couldn't have sat for hrs there. In hindsight I should have, I couldn't bend my knee as it was excruciating and couldn't get into a car until a couple of weeks ago.

I didn't want to call an ambulance in case it was needed for an emergency, so I went to A&E and was seen in MIU by Laura the Physio, she saw my right knee was swollen and mishapped and muscles surrounding my knee were tight, its affecting my ankle and the way I walked and causing some hip pain and under both feet,  although the burning was still there but not just as intense as it had been.

She sent me for an x-ray, Laura then showed me the x-ray and explained it to me, she gave me a hinged brace and crutches and going to refer me to physio as urgent. She was a lovely, caring person and definitely an asset to the team. I told her I would have loved her to be the physio for me, as she gave me confidence, Laura gave me some exercises to do as a starter until my physio referral happens. Thankyou very much Laura.
