This is on behalf of my 93 yr old mother( almost 94) who has diabetes & is on insulin injections 4 times daily ( which she does herself) plus she suffers from IBS.She lives alone & doesn't use the internet or a mobile phone;similar I imagine to many other 93 yr olds. She has recently experienced some left sided lower abdominal pain & phoned to try & at least speak to a doctor. Most times she phones she is anything up to 56th in the queue but today she actually managed to speak to a person who promptly told her there were no appointments & suggested my mother phoned 111! What an appalling service not to be able to offer an elderly patient the opportunity to at least speak to a doctor or make an appointment in advance. The diabetic nurse also expects my mother to arrange a blood test at Rowley Regis Hospital;again impossible due to the huge number waiting in the queue. The diabetic nurse has also apparently said to my mother she needs a fasting blood sugar test;my mother is simply not able to get herself to an early hospital appointment for this test even if she had someone to take her; but there doesn't appear to be any alternative for someone elderly & on their own to overcome this problem. There does not seem to be any condsideration for elderly patients who have multiple health issues;just a standard answer trying to bat her away for someone else to deal with.Very frustrating & disappointing & in my view an uncaring & unprofessional approach to dealing with a patient.
"Poor service"
